North Surrey Tigers – 29 Cowichan Bulldogs – 21

Sunday, November 21, 2010

The weather was ice-cold, but the football was red-hot. The Tigers hosted the Cowichan Bulldogs in a nail-biter semi-final match-up. The Tigers took a commanding 29-7 lead by half-time. Andy Sandhu had a tremendous first half, snagging two precision passes from Devoun Hallums for touchdowns, and wreaking havoc defensively. Devoun Hallums and Emmanuel Agbozo rounded out the touchdown scoring in the first half. Terrance Jones deserves special mention for a spectacular catch during the Tigers’ march to the endzone.

Brock Norton and Darren da Silva played a great first half defensively. While Cowichan mounted a spirited come-back in the second half, the North Surrey defence was up for the challenge, with Jamel Lyles, Evan Cairns and Mitchell Kolodychuk taking no prisoners. A North Surrey O-line push for the first down had the crowd cheering at its strength and distance.

The Tigers are now heading to the VMFL finals in Richmond on Sunday, November 28th – GO TIGERS!!!

North Surrey Tigers – 7 South Delta Rams – 0

In an emotion-filled 10th game, the Tigers maintained their perfect record with a win against the South Delta Rams. Jamel Lyles scored the only touchdown of the game, and racked up a lot of yards running. The offensive line blocked well throughout the entire game. It was a back and forth affair, with the Tigers stopping a South Delta drive 3 yards from the endzone.

The defense came up big today, with Chan Upmanu, Brock Norton and Mitchell Kolodychuk playing especially strong. Special mention goes to Andy Sandhu who intercepted a Rams pass at game’s end to serve notice that the Tigers are unstoppable! With the win, the Tigers placed 1st in their division, and are now headed for the playoffs!

Go Tigers!!!

North Surrey Tigers 42 - Victoria Spartans 10

After an 11-day break, the Tigers played their ninth game of the season at Bear Creek Park against the Victoria Spartans. The Tigers opened the scoring with what should go down in the North Surrey record books as one of the strangest touchdowns ever scored – an end-zone recovery, where fumbles ruled, and Devoun Hallums ended up the victor.

In fact, Devoun had a tremendous day, scoring a total of 5 touchdowns. Jamel Lyles added a touchdown, with an exciting 60 yard run. Emmanual Agbozo had a particularly good game, as did Darren da Silva, Brock Norton and Rashon Loobie.

The Tigers’ next game is in Tsawwassen against the South Delta Rams.

North Surrey Tigers: 38 White Rock Titans: 14

The Tigers continued their exciting 2010 season with a match-up against the White Rock Titans. Today’s game showed more than any other that the Tigers have the heart and depth required of a great football team. The offensive line was strong, opening the holes. Touchdowns were earned the hard way, knocking back the yards, drive after drive. Jonaus Levac ran the ball with guts and determination. Touchdowns were scored by Jamel Lyles (3), Devoun Hallums (1) and Anikate Sandhu (1).

Buddy Wood had a good game defensively, recovering a fumble. Other defensive stand-outs were Darren da Silva and Brock Norton, but it should be said the entire defensive unit played a great game.

N.S. Tigers vs Vancouver Trojans, Bear Creek Park

Jonaus Levac was a standout in this game, kicking 2 field goals, intercepting a Trojans' pass and running in a convert.

Defensively, Darren Dasilva was everywhere, with solid backing provided by Buddy Wood and Mohamed Jebouri, among others. Unfortunately, the game was called shortly after the start of the 2nd half, due to injuries suffered by the Trojans [who came to Bear Creek Park with a small roster of players]. The Tigers' next game is another night game, this time against the Burnaby Lions at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.
