The tentative schedule of play for Spring 2010 is:

ball; Sunday - May 2nd          Vancouver Westside
ball; Sunday - May 9th           North Surrey
ball; Sunday - May 16th         Langley @ McLeod Stadium
ball; Sunday - May 30th         Chilliwack (Townsend Park)
ball; Sunday - June 6th          Coquitlam (Panorama)
ball; Sat/Sun - June 12th/13th BC Provincial Flag Football Championships
– Kelowna @ Parkinson Park (by Apple Bowl)

You must make sure all players and staff can attend the June 12/13th weekend in order to register.

VMFL Spring Flag Football will be set up in 3 divisions: U13, U15 & U18 (in alignment with Football Canada youth divisions) & all levels will play in a 5 on 5 format. Guidlines here provides an outline for the format that VMFL play will follow except regarding team size – 6 to 9 players)

The Provincial U15 winning team will be provided with funding by Football Canada for 6 players, one coach & one manager for transportation, accommodations & food to the Canadian National U15 Championships at Carlton University in Ottawa, Ontario on August 20 – 22, 2010.  (Our ’09 U15 team out of the Vancouver Westside finished in 2nd place at last yrs Nationals)

Each Jamboree is planned to have the U13 division start at 9 am, U15 at 11:30 am & U18 at 2 pm.  (But if significantly more teams sign up compared to ’09, the times will be modified)  4 games will be run simultaneously width-wise on a CFL size field.

2010 Core Sports Group Football Camp - April 17/18 - South Surrey

Popular CFL veteran Kelly Bates is bringing his football fundamentals camp to South Surrey Athletic Park on the weekend of April 17-18, 2010.

The camp, which focuses on Canadian Football rules, is offered to players from the ages of 14-18 and features top notch coaching from CIS coaches as well as players currently in the CFL. The camp is noted for its individual position instruction and averages roughly one coach for every 7.5 players.

The camp offers over 10 hours of instructions and also includes strength and condition instruction and off-season planning. Registration is capped at 100 kids in the following group numbers:

QB - 8 , RB - 8 , Rec - 14, OL - 16, DL - 16, LB - 16, DB - 16

A website specific to the Surrey camp will be announced shortly and registrations will take place on the website. In the meantime, to get an understanding of the camp structure, interested participants are encouraged to visit www.kellybates.ca to view a schedule of a similar camp that is held in Saskatchewan.

2010 Jay Prepchuk QB camp and Power2Perform Receiver Academy

Quarterback Academy:

The Jay Prepchuk Quarterback Academy is designed to offer young quarterbacks an opportunity to further develop skills required for high performance. The topics covered include throwing mechanics, play action pass, footwork, and reading defences. The camp will also feature guest appearances from professional, university, and junior coaches and quarterbacks.

Receiver Academy:

The Power2Perform Receiver Academy is designed to offer receivers and opportunity to further develop the skills required for this highly specialized position. The topics covered include stance and starts, blocking, route running and ball handling.

2010 Full Speed Football QB Academy

Back for its third season, Full Speed Football Quarterback Academy consists of five sessions focusing on the fundamentals of playing one of the most physically and mentally challenging position in all sports.

Skills that will be worked on during the academy include footwork, ball faking, three- and five-step drops, proper throwing motion, passing on the run, pocket presence as well as overall accuracy.

The sessions are facilitated by former Vancouver College QB Ciaran Feenan. Feenan played college football in Eastern Washington for Walla Walla College and was part of the 1991 Sun Bowl Championship team. He currently serves as the Offensive Coordinator for the Notre Dame Regional Secondary School Bantam Football Team.

Session dates for the QB Academy are slated for: May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. The camp is open to quarterbacks aged 10 to 17 and is limited to only 10 quarterbacks. The cost is $150 and includes camp shorts and t-shirts. All sessions will take place at John Oliver Park in North Delta, BC.

Players Camps...

UBC Best In The West Football Camp - July 9th - 11th

This elite level football camp will give all players an early start to the fall season. Players will receive individual position specific coaching necessary for successful performance. This is a full equipment camp and campers must bring their own equipment. It is possible to rent equipment as supplies last.  Campers will participate in 3 practices, 2 strength and conditioning sessions and an afternoon scrimmage.  Practice jersey, awards, prizes and snacks will be provided.  The UBC coaching staff will be joined by special guests to ensure the highest level of coaching is provided.
